Motihari :  According to an official report, a total of  22  Government  Primary School teachers including 5 women teachers died  due to Covid-19 in
East Champaran District  in North Bihar between April 5 and  May 10, 2021,  during second wave of the pandemic.

District Education Officer (DEO), East Champaran, Awadhesh Kumar Singh, confirmed the death of 22 primary school teachers due to Covid-19 and sent
the list of deceased to the  Education Separtment of Bihar Government on May 10, 2021. Most of them were  contract teachers.

Jai Prakash Singh, vice president of Bihar Panchayat Nagar Praramvik Shikshak Sangh, alleged that these contractual teachers had not been paid their salary by the government for the last four months. The state government has shut the primary schools till May 15 but teachers were required to be present at their respective schools on rotation basis and were  infected with coronavirus and  died. The East Champaran District  Teachers Association has demanded  a compensation of Rs 50 lakh each to next of kin the deceased.
