New Delhi : A total of new 20,035 Covid-19 cases were recorded in India in last 24 hours taking the tally of cases recorded in the country so far to 1,02,86,709 at 8 am on January 1, 2020. In contrast, 23,181 Covid-19 patients were declared / discharged in the country in last 24 hours taking the tally to 98,83,461 on January 1, 2021, exceeding the number of active cases ( 2,54,254) by a massive margin of 96,29,207. The active cases accounted for only 2.47% of the total cases on the first day of the year 2021, a drop of 3,402 cases in last 24 hours..

Of the 1,02,86,709 Covid-19 cases recorded so far in the country, altogether 98,83,461 patients have been declared cured with the recovery rate (RR) being 96.08%. India has tested 17,31,11,694 samples till date including 10,62,420 samples on December 31, 2020.

The Covid-19 toll climbed to 1,48,994 in India on January 1, 2021, with 256 new deaths being recorded in the country in last 24 hours including 58 in Maharashtra, 30 in Kerala, 29 in West Bengal, 21 in Chhattisgarh, 13 in Tamilnadu, 13 in Delhi, 12 in Uttar Pradesh,11 in Madhya Pradesh, 10 in Punjab, 9 in Karnatak, 7 in Rajasthan, 6 in Haryana, 5 in Uttarakhand, 4 in Andhra Pradesh, 4 in Gujarat, 4 in Bihar, and 3 in Jharkhand. The Case Fatality Rate remained pegged at 1.45% in the country on January 1, 2021. India had recorded 299 new deaths on December 31, 2020.
