2 killed, many injured as tree falls on Ara block office campus

Ara : Two persons including a woman were killed while over half- a- dozen others injured and about a dozen vehicles were damaged when a tall tree fell on the ground on the campus of  Ara block office under Nawada police station, Ara, on July 16, 2018, afternoon.

Bhojpur SP Awakash Kumar along with rescue team rushed to the spot and rescue operation started on war footing. The injured were admitted to Sadar Hospital, Ara. The Civil Surgeon (CS)  requisitioned four ambulances and sent a team of doctors there. The South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited cut power supply to avoid any untoward incident.

SP Awakash Kumar said that Sonu Kumar, a three- wheeler driver of Zamira locality had brought his wife Nitu Devi, 22, to admit her to Primary Health Centre (PHC) on the campus of Ara block office on July 16 afternoon for delivery and after admitting her there parked his three- wheeler under the tree. Some other people including Urmila Devi, wife of Vibhuti Prasad of Srinagar under Ara Muffassil police station, were under the tree to escape the scorching sun.

Suddenly, the old but dense tree on the campus of the Ara block office fell on the ground and also on some vehicles parked there including the three- wheeler in which Urmila Devi, an Asha worker, and driver Sonu Kumar were killed on spot while over half a dozen were injured. The SP said that a minor girl Chandani Kumari was admitted to hospital along with other injured while her grandfather Basudeo Ram was trapped under the tree. He said JCBs and other equipments have been pressed into rescue operation.
