New Delhi : An Indian Air Force (IAF) Microlight Virus SW-80 aircraft crashed around 12 noon on February 15, 2018, after getting airborne from Air Force Station, Jorhat, Assam, for a routine sortie. Two pilots:  Wg Cdr J James and Wg Cdr D Vats, sustained fatal injuries. A court of inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident, according to a PIB release.

The crash reportedly took place at Darbar Chapori, a sand bar in the Brahmaputra, where there is no human habitation,killing two Indian Air Force pilots. The pilots attempted an emergency landing but the aircraft crashed on the sand bar People from other villages of the district spotted the aircraft going up in flames and informed the local authorities.
