Bettiah: District & Sessions Judge, Bettiah (West Champaran), Abhimanyu Lal Srivastava, on May 30, 2018, sentenced two accused : Chhotu Rai of village Pareshani under Chautarawa police station, and Vinay Sharma of Haddiya Chowk under Shikarpur police stationto, to 10 years imprisonment in a case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The court also slapped a fine of Rs one lakh on each of the two convicts.

The case was lodged with Shikarpur police station in West Champaran district on June 19, 2016, under various sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act charging them with smuggling 2kg Charas.  Special Public Prosecutor Suresh Kumar giving  said that Sub Inspector Virender Singh of Shikarpur police station had investigated the case.
