The message of the Minister of State for Culture (Independent Charge) and Environment, Forest & Climate Change Dr Mahesh Sharma was read out on the occasion. Dr Sharma said, “The 1st Print Biennale India, 2018, is an endeavor that is a quest for discovering new artistic trends in printmaking Nationally & Internationally. Printmaking is a means of fine expression. The direct consequence of this was the definition of the role Printmaking was to play in society and the broader and more indirect consequence were the ideological reaction this imposed.”
Shakti Barman, in his address, said, “It was around 1980s that I first happened to get introduced with the lithography medium of printmaking. All of a sudden lithography had become very popular. But with the time, its trend as well as practicing spaces and studios got demolished and now we have very few of them. I believe that this grand endeavor by the Akademi will help it in gaining its popularity back.”
An exhibition of eminent Printmakers of India showcasing master Indian printmakers will be inaugurated on March 26, 2018, at the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) by the Chief Guest Dr Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, President, Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR), according to a PIB release.
