Muzaffarpur : Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) claimed lives of nineteen children during last 24 hours at Muzaffarpur. These children were suffering from convulsion and high fever.
According to Civil Surgeon, Muzaffarpur, Dr S P Singh, 18 children died at Sri Krishna Medical College & Hospital (SKMCH), Muzaffarpur, while one child died at private Kejriwal Hospital.
Altogether 50 children have died allegedly due to AES in Muzaffarpur during the last ten days. Commissioner, Tirhut Division, Narmadeshwar Lal, on June 10, 2019, directed the Civil Surgeon to keep a ecord of deaths and after proper verification state the reasons behind it. CS Dr Singh said that 40 children were undergoing treatment under AES Protocol.
It may be mentioned here that Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan had on June 9, 2019, reviewed the outbreak of AES in Muzaffarpur and Japanese Encephalitis (JE) in Gaya with Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey in New Delhi. Dr Harsh Vardhan issued instructions to the officials to combat AES & JE.
