New Delhi : India recorded 18,177 new Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours taking the tally of cases recorded so far in the country to 1,03,23,965 at 8 a m on January 3, 2021. On the other hand, 20,923 Covid-19 patients were declared cured/discharged in last 24 hours in the country taking the tally to 99,27,310 on January 3, 2021, exceeding the number of active cases ( 2,47,220) by a gigantic margin of 96,80,103.

The active cases accounted for only 2.39% of the total cases recorded in the country, a drop of 2,963 cases in last 24 hours.

Of the 1,03,23,965 Covid-19 cases recorded so far in the country, altogether 99,27,310 patients have been declared cured with the recovery rate (RR) being 96.16% on January 3, 2021. India has tested 17,48,99,783 samples so far including 9,58,125 on January 2, 2021.

The Covid-19 toll climbed to 1,49,435 on January 3, 2021, with 217 new deaths being recorded in the country in last 24 hours including 51 in Maharashtra, 28 in West Bengal, 21 in Kerala, 15 in Punjab, 14 in Delhi, 11 in Tamilnadu, 11 in Chhattisgarh, 9 in Madhya Pradesh, 8 in Uttar Pradesh, 7 in Uttarakhand,  5 in Rajasthan, 5 in Gujarat, 4 in Haryana, 4 in Jharkhand, 3 in Karnataka, 3 in Bihar, 3 in Andhra Pradesh, and 2 in Himachal Pradesh. The Case Fatality Rate remained pegged at 1.45% in the country on January 3, 2021. India had recorded 224 new deaths on January 2, 2021.
