New Delhi : A total of 18,139 Covid-19 cases were recorded in India last 24 hours taking the tally to 1,04,13,417 cases at 8 am on January 8, 2021. In contrast, 20,539 Covid-19 patients were declared cured/discharged in last 24 hours in India taking the tally to 1,00,37,398 in the country on January 8, 2021, exceeding the number of active cases (2,25,449) by a huge margin of 98,11,949. The active cases accounted for only 2.16% of the total cases on January 8, 2021, a drop of 2,634 cases in last 24 hours.
Of the 1,04,13,417 Covid-19 cases recorded so far in India, altogether 1,00,37,398 patients have been declared cured with the recovery rate (RR) being 96.39%. India has tested 17,93,36,364 samples so far including 9.35,369 samples on January 7, 2021, according to Union Health Ministry figure.
The Covid-19 toll climbed to 1,50,570 in the country on January 8, 2021, with 234 new deaths being recorded in last 24 hours including 72 in Maharashtra, 25 in Kerala, 19 from Delhi, 18 in West Bengal, 12 in Madhya Pradesh, 12 in Tamilnadu, 11 in Uttar Pradesh, 10 in Punjab, 7 in Chhattisgarh, 7 in Karnataka, 6 in Haryana, 6 in Uttarakhand, 4 in Rajasthan, 4in Bihar, 3 in Gujarat, 1 in Andhra Pradesh, and 1 in Jharkhand. India had recorded 222 new deaths on January 7, 2021.
