Patna : Union Minister of state for Health and Family Welfare Ashwini Kumar Choubey on January 24, 2018, said that 18 more departments will be opened at AIIMS, Patna, as the central government has chalked out a time bound plan for its development. It will be visible within five months, Choubey said during an interaction with the members of Bihar Industries Association (BIA) her. At present, 12 departments are functional at AIIMS Patna.

The Union Minister said said that the centre had approved a propsal under which AIIMS Delhi surgeons would come to AIIMS Patna to perform major operations if required. He said that the three medical colleges are being opened at Purnia, Chhapra and Samastipur in Bihar. He said that 27 % works for the establishment of medical college at Purnia had already been done while land has been made available for Chhapra Medical College. The Minister said the land was being identified for Samastipur Medical College.

Choubey said that a 150 bed hospital for treatment of cancer is being opened at Muzaffarpur and Cancer Detection Centres will be opened in every district with the help of Tata Memoria Trust. BIA President K P S Keshri demanded more UG and PG seats at AIIMS Patna.
